Post-Apocalypse Zelda, Part 1
Something of a personal project, I’ve wanted to do a sort of Future Zelda for some time now, and school tossed this assignment my way: redesign an old video game.
I’ve always wondered what Hyrule would be like in some strange, parallel, bombed out universe, and this is my exploration into that land over the course of 7 weeks. This is part 1 of 2 parts, showing the various character and monster designs I decided to work with. Part 2 will contain more developmental pieces, including some of the environments and props.
Some notes:
For the most part, I tried to stay true to the already established universe, keeping in mind certain mechanics and plot points. Deciding on the enemy selection was difficult: there are many, many signature enemies in the games, and I would have liked to work with all of them. In the end I settled on enemies that had the most impact on me, either through nostalgia (like the Octorok) or gameplay experience (Redeads).
If you’ve got any questions, whether in general or on specific pieces, criticisms, or are curious on my thought process, feel free to drop me a message.
(Hmm… Darksun Verinya?)

theerrantknight-deactivated2013 asked: Don't worry, I'm always fighting evil. So, uh, did you have any place in mind, because I know one or two. But you're the more experienced one, I'm willing to bet.
“Lead the way. Trouble seems to find me wherever I go anyway.”
Verinya rose to her feet and offered a hand to the man. “I don’t think I got your name.”

theerrantknight-deactivated2013 asked: Great! I mean... Excellent. I knew Gilda couldn't be lying to me all the time. And don't worry about harming innocents, I'm a knight. We're supposed to protect the weak, innocent, etc, etc.
“Right. The order of Iomedae tends to take a slightly more proactive stance on evil, but our goals sound like they’re much the same.”

theerrantknight-deactivated2013 asked: Right. Listen... I was told you were something of an adventurer. And as it turns out, I do a bit of adventuring myself. It's probably a bit rude of me, and you don't need to say yes, so perhaps, you'd be up for a bit of adventuring with me maybe?
“I don’t see why not,” she said with a shrug, “So long as you don’t seek to harm innocents. You can never be too careful these days.”

theerrantknight-deactivated2013 asked: Wonderful. Uh, listen, I heard you were a paladin of some god or another. Is that true? Or are you just some very large woman who normally goes outside wearing armor?
Verinya smiled. “Indeed. I am a champion of Iomedae, the Inheritor of Aroden. But I suppose you’re right on both counts.”

theerrantknight-deactivated2013 asked: Eh, excuse me, but I'm looking for a Paladin by the name of Verinya. You, uh, wouldn't know where I could find her, do you?
“You’re looking at her. What can I do for you?”

“Sounds intense. Requires a lot of devotion, no doubt. But it sounds a bit black and white,” Gilda stated. The lady came back to their table and gave them some menus. Gilda gave her menu back immediately and said, “Large serving of honey barbecue wings and… shit… I drank already… uh…”
She looked at Verinya. “You drinking more or should I get a soda or something?”
A drink would be nice. That beer wasn’t really much so…
“No,” Verinya blurted out. “I mean, no thank you. I’m just going to have water.” She rubbed her eyes with one hand.
“So what about you? I’ve talked an awful lot about myself today.” She gestured to Gilda with an open hand. “What do you do for a living?”

“Gray area. Got it. But yeah, I guess I can get that. My country hasn’t been in like a full scale war in a couple decades. There’s no need for every soldier to be on the line at all times. We have a couple countless most would consider to be our enemies, but even then. there’s only so much that can be done when a major concern for your side is to try and seem like the good guys.”
“It’s not quite like being a soldier. It’s more like… planetary guard duty. Most paladins are stationed somewhere, others leave the church and go adventuring, stomping out evil where they find it. People like me are like guards on patrol- we wander through Golarion performing our duty until we’re told to stop; our work could end after a month, or last until we die.”
